Bozeman Health Foundation

Bozeman Health Foundation was established in 1998 to generate vital financial support for health care services and facilities in our community, contributing to Bozeman Health’s mission to improve health and quality of life. Since its inception, the Foundation has played a pivotal role in advancing our local integrated health care system’s mission and strategic goals. As an independent nonprofit governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Foundation is responsible for managing all philanthropic gifts that support Bozeman Health. Through the development and stewardship of these resources, the Foundation helps to ensure access to health care services and programs will continue to advance for our southwest Montana communities.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, the Foundation has raised more than $80 million since its founding. These funds, including permanent endowment contributions, ensure ongoing support for both current and future health care initiatives to expand and enhance local health care to meet the community’s evolving needs.

Matt Miller

CFRE, Chief Philanthropy Officer

Miller will oversee all aspects of philanthropy, including strategic campaigns, donor relations and community partnerships. He will report to Bozeman Health CEO, Kathryn Bertany, MD, and collaborate closely with the foundation’s board of directors and health system leadership to advance Bozeman Health’s mission to improve community health and quality of life across southwest Montana.

Miller most recently served as executive director of development at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he led major gifts teams focused on grateful patient fundraising across the health system. He raised more than $10 million annually while also leading and supporting his teams to progressively higher levels of fundraising. In addition, Miller co-led multiple initiatives during his tenure including a development policy task force, standardized internal reporting practices to leadership and board entities, and modernized key performance indicators for the fundraising team.

Miller is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, is a certified specialist in planned giving, and was included among the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2019. He received the Healthcare Philanthropy Journal Award for thought contributions to the sector in 2020 and again in 2022. Most recently, in 2024, Miller earned AHP’s prestigious Fellow designation—one of the highest professional achievements in health care philanthropy.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University and has served on multiple boards and committees, including the UMCA, Family Service Association and the oversight committee of the Milton Murray Fund for Philanthropy.

Kimberly Bauer

Development Coordinator

As development coordinator, Kimberly supports the advancement of Bozeman Health Foundation’s mission by serving as the office manager and overseeing the monthly budget, fund and grant administration functions. She also serves as the liaison to the foundation’s board of directors, committees and related Bozeman Health departments. As she works toward earning her Bachelor of Science degree in public health while maintaining a high GPA, Kimberly has worked fulltime since 2022 for Bozeman Health managing all aspects of medication orders from wholesalers. She serves on the health system’s Diversity, Equality, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB) committee among other volunteer activities. A passion for health care, Kimberly has been a longtime volunteer advocate ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Association. As such, she was invited to Washington D.C. to speak with United States senators about the importance of supporting legislative bills to raise awareness and funding to make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s, like Kimberly herself who lost her father “Cowboy Bob” to the disease.

She has been a driving force in implementing Bozeman’s chapter of ‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ – the world’s largest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s care, support and research and ranks as the second-largest peer-to-peer fundraising events in the United States. Kimberly grew up on a horse ranch in Colorado. She is a proud mother of one daughter and enjoys gardening, painting and hiking, and LOVES baseball and football. She anticipates graduating with her public health degree in 2025, at which time she plans to continue honing her skills within health care philanthropy to continue her passion and pursuit in helping others.

Claire Hodges, CFRE

Philanthropy Advisor

Claire Hodges serves as a philanthropy advisor for Bozeman Health Foundation, where she builds and strengthens relationships with donors who share a commitment to advancing local health care. In this role, she partners with individuals, families and community leaders to inspire meaningful philanthropy in support of Bozeman Health’s mission and strategic priorities.

Previously, Claire served as the Foundation’s manager of annual giving for 3 years, overseeing community partnerships and fundraising events. 

Claire holds a bachelor’s degree in community health from Montana State University and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). She is proud to serve her community through Bozeman Health Foundation and is dedicated to advancing compassionate, high-quality health care for all who call the Gallatin Valley home.

Nick Lonardo

Manager of Philanthropy Programs & Stewardship

As manager of philanthropy programs and stewardship, Nick works collaboratively to plan and implement philanthropy programs and initiatives to support meaningful relationship building, acquisition, cultivation, stewardship and donor recognition programs and goals. Prior to starting at Bozeman Health Foundation, Nick directed fundraising programs at large public universities. He began his career fundraising at The Ohio State University, overseeing their annual fundraising where he enhanced overall fundraising operations and increased overall donors and gifts to the university.

He then moved to Bozeman and spent the last six years as vice president of the annual fund at Montana State University Alumni Foundation responsible for directing the planning, management, coordination, implementation and evaluation of its annual fund and stewardship programs. Nick focused on improving the overall donor experience which led to significantly increased annual giving to MSU during his time there. Nick lives in Bozeman with his two young sons and a puppy named Holly. Besides his passion for fundraising, he enjoys hiking, cooking and making pizzas.

Carmen Price

System Manager of Philanthropy Communications

Carmen Price serves as Bozeman Health Foundation’s manager of philanthropy communications, leading the public-facing messaging and materials in efforts to catalyze broad impact in support of the foundation’s mission. In collaboration with Bozeman Health System and foundation colleagues, Carmen develops and implements robust communications to strengthen philanthropic engagement with supporters and cultivate new relationships to expand the investments in the health of southwest Montana.

She brings to the role a broad range of effective communications and marketing experience. Prior to joining the foundation’s team, Carmen worked within the Montana University System in roles that specialized in communications, marketing, project management and broadcast production. Prior to her tenure with MUS, she was a journalist for Montana’s largest newspaper.

Carmen received her bachelor’s degree in film and photography from Montana State University and her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Montana.
