Miller to oversee philanthropic strategy in support of community health and quality of life.
BOZEMAN, MT — Bozeman Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Matt Miller as chief philanthropy officer of Bozeman Health Foundation, effective July 14.
“It’s an honor to join Bozeman Health Foundation and contribute to a mission that’s deeply rooted in serving this incredible community,” said Miller. “I look forward to deepening relationships across the region and helping Bozeman Health continue to be a trusted provider of health care—and the foundation a trusted resource for those who want to make a difference.”
Miller will oversee all aspects of philanthropy, including strategic campaigns, donor relations and community partnerships. He will report to Bozeman Health CEO, Kathryn Bertany, MD, and collaborate closely with the foundation’s board of directors and health system leadership to advance Bozeman Health’s mission to improve community health and quality of life across southwest Montana.
“Matt has had a remarkable career in philanthropy and nonprofit leadership,” said Bertany. “He brings deep expertise in mission-based giving, has a passion for community service, and a relationship-driven approach that aligns with our values and goals.”
Miller most recently served as executive director of development at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he led major gifts teams focused on grateful patient fundraising across the health system. He raised more than $10 million annually while also leading and supporting his teams to progressively higher levels of fundraising. In addition, Miller co-led multiple initiatives during his tenure including a development policy task force, standardized internal reporting practices to leadership and board entities, and modernized key performance indicators for the fundraising team.
“Matt is a values-driven leader with a demonstrated ability to inspire generosity and advance mission-centered work,” said foundation board chair Cory Pulfrey. “His collaborative approach and strategic insight position him for success as he stewards the next chapter of philanthropy for Bozeman Health.”
Miller is a Certified Fund Raising Executive, is a certified specialist in planned giving, and was included among the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2019. He received the Healthcare Philanthropy Journal Award for thought contributions to the sector in 2020 and again in 2022. Most recently, in 2024, Miller earned AHP’s prestigious Fellow designation—one of the highest professional achievements in health care philanthropy.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from California State University and has served on multiple boards and committees, including the UMCA, Family Service Association and the oversight committee of the Milton Murray Fund for Philanthropy.
“Bozeman Health Foundation has a remarkable legacy of strengthening the community through philanthropy, Miller added. “I’m eager to work alongside such dedicated and steadfast partners, donors, and exceptional staff across the system to build upon that meaningful impact and to support the people and programs in this community.”
